Trezor Bridge® | Official: Secure Your Access
Welcome to the official setup guide for Trezor Bridge® — the trusted communication tool
that connects your Trezor hardware wallet to supported browsers and applications.
This document will walk you through what Trezor Bridge is, why it’s necessary, how to install it,
and how to ensure your connection is always secure.
What Is Trezor Bridge?
Trezor Bridge® is a background service (or software interface) that enables secure, encrypted communication between your
Trezor hardware wallet and web-based wallets or apps (like Trezor Suite or third-party integrations).
Without Trezor Bridge, browsers may not be able to detect or communicate with your wallet, especially on systems that
do not support WebUSB or where native communication is blocked.
Why You Need Trezor Bridge
- Securely connects Trezor wallet to web applications
- Works as a lightweight background tool
- Acts as a middleware for legacy browsers or OS configurations
- Maintains secure local communication without exposing private keys
Important: Trezor Bridge does not access your funds or read your recovery seed.
All sensitive data stays inside your hardware wallet at all times.
Before You Install
- Ensure you’re downloading from the official site:
https://trezor.io/bridge
- Make sure your Trezor device is ready and functional
- Unplug your device before starting installation
- Disable any fake or pirated Trezor apps
How to Install Trezor Bridge
- Go to the official Bridge download page: trezor.io/bridge
- Download the installer for your OS (Windows, macOS, Linux)
- Run the installer and follow on-screen prompts
- After installation, restart your browser
- Plug in your Trezor device
- Visit Trezor Suite Web to test connectivity
Supported Operating Systems
Trezor Bridge supports most major OS platforms:
- Windows 10/11+
- macOS 10.14+
- Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Arch)
How It Works
Trezor Bridge runs quietly in the background. When you launch a compatible application like
Trezor Suite Web or MetaMask (with Trezor integration), the app sends commands to the Bridge via a
secure local connection (typically localhost
).
Bridge then communicates directly with your Trezor hardware wallet through USB, allowing cryptographic
operations (like transaction signing) to happen entirely on the device.
Localhost Interface
You may notice Bridge running at http://127.0.0.1:21325
– this is normal.
It does not connect to the internet and only listens to your computer’s internal apps.
Security Features
- Local-only communication (never transmits over internet)
- Encrypted USB traffic
- Authenticates signed messages
- Prevents key extraction or spoofing
Verifying You’re Using the Real Bridge
Here’s how to ensure your Bridge is genuine:
- Download only from trezor.io
- Verify the digital signature of the installer
- Check that the running process is signed by SatoshiLabs (on Windows/macOS)
- Use system tools to monitor the service: e.g.
Activity Monitor
or Task Manager
⚠ WARNING: Never install browser extensions or “Bridge alternatives” that claim to connect Trezor.
These can be phishing attempts designed to steal funds.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
1. Bridge Not Detected
If your browser says “Trezor Bridge not installed”:
- Ensure it's running (check processes)
- Restart your computer
- Disable browser extensions interfering with USB
2. Device Not Recognized
Try:
- Switching USB ports
- Using a different cable (data + power)
- Verifying that your system sees the device
3. Bridge Keeps Asking to Reinstall
This may be caused by:
- Old browser cache or cookies
- Multiple users on the same PC
- Antivirus blocking the port
Try clearing browser cache and ensuring Bridge is running as administrator.
Bridge vs WebUSB
Some browsers (like Chrome) support WebUSB, which can connect to Trezor devices directly without Bridge.
However, Bridge remains necessary for:
- Firefox and Safari compatibility
- Legacy system support
- Stability and fallback if WebUSB fails
Keeping Bridge Updated
Periodically check for new versions at
trezor.io/bridge.
Older versions may lack support for new Trezor Suite features or updated OS compatibility.
When updating:
- Uninstall the old version
- Restart your system
- Install the new version from the official site
